Magic ACTLAB
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Welcome to our FAQ! Here you’ll find quick answers to the most common questions. Step behind the curtain and discover the magic behind what we do.
1. What is ACTLAB?
ACTLAB is an international, non profit development program for magicians who want to create or refine competition level acts. We focus on structure, collaboration, feedback and long term growth.
2. Do I need to be an experienced competitor to join?
No. You only need motivation, ambition and a willingness to work seriously on your magic. We welcome both experienced competitors and dedicated newcomers.
3. What is the difference between ACTLAB Lounge and ACTLAB Session?
Lounge is open table conversation with no agenda. You bring whatever you want.
Session is structured work with a set agenda, focused feedback and dedicated act development.
4. How often do you meet?
We meet twice each month, alternating between Lounge and Session. All virtual meetings take place on Sundays from 20:00–22:00 (CET).
5. What is ACTLAB Summit?
Summit is our physical in person gathering, planned for 2026. It will include workshops, seminars, coaching, live presentations and creative collaboration.
6. Do I need to attend every meeting?
No. You participate as your schedule allows. However, Sessions are where the most structured act development takes place, so regular participation is recommended if you want strong progress.
7. Is ACTLAB connected to FISM or any magic organisation?
No. ACTLAB is completely independent. We are FISM compatible in our approach to competition development, but not FISM affiliated or FISM governed.
8. What does it cost to join?
ACTLAB operates non profit. We have a modest annual fee that covers basic costs, and juniors under 18 join for free.
9. How do I apply to become a member?
Simply fill out our application form. We look for motivation, seriousness and willingness to contribute to the community. ACTLAB is a curated environment, so membership is approved based on fit.
10. What kind of help can I expect for my act?
You can receive:
• high level creative input
• technical and structural feedback
• scripting support
• staging, pacing and clarity guidance
• competition strategy advice
• ongoing follow up throughout the year
You decide how much you want to share and when. The more you engage, the more value you will gain.
